I was at Wal-Mart today and walked past some kind of Sony product. The box had their new slogan on it which was “Make.Believe”. I don’t really know the meaning they intended from the statement but to me it sounded like the perfect two-word formula for success. Make. Believe. Let me explain. The first step for a successful and meaningful life, business, or family is a vision. You have to be able to close your eyes and imagine exactly what it is you want out of life. Most people have never really done this. They say they want to be rich or live on the beach or own a company, but they have never taken the time to really imagine it or to write it down. It’s like saying you want to drive to New York without a map or any idea which direction it was. The people who are really progressing in life know and can describe exactly what they want. They have made the plan for their future. The first step: Make a plan.
The second step is to believe. Believe in yourself. Each of us has infinite potential. I have realized that more and more while watching the Olympics this year. So many Olympic athletes overcame incredibly hardships in order to compete at the highest level in the world. Many if us have been told all of our lives that we can’t do this or we can’t do that. We hear it so much that we start to believe it. But those who stick their neck out and just go for it are the one’s who accomplish great things. As the quote goes, “I can’t never accomplished anything. I’ll will try has performed wonders.” You don’t have to know the next step but you do have to believe that when the step comes, you will be able to take it. Believe in yourself. So the formula is this: Make + Believe = Achieve
